IN VICENZA AND ON THE BERICI HILLS THE GRAND FINALE OF THE GIRO DEL VENETO

Thanks to the synergy between PP Sport Events and the Vicenza municipal administration, the 85th edition of the classic for professionals will conclude with a suggestive 22-kilometer circuit among the scenic and architectural beauties of Vicenza.

Vicenza, June 1, 2022 – The 85th Giro del Veneto is starting to take shape. In the sumptuous Sala Stucchi of Palazzo Trissino in Vicenza, the curtain has been lifted on the final part of the route, which will have the city of Palladio and its splendid hills as its backdrop. The classic for professionals, won by Girardengo, Binda, Coppi, De Vlaeminck, Saronni and Moser among others and revived last year by Filippo Pozzato's PP Sport Events, will return on October 12. It will start from Padua, the city that hoisted the finish line last year (victory of the Belgian Meurisse). While other details regarding the route are being defined, the final 22-kilometer circuit has been defined in detail, born from the synergy between the Municipal Administration of Vicenza and PP Sport Events, with the support of the Veneto Region. It is a ring that includes the scenic and architectural beauties of Vicenza and that offers technical content in abundance, also revisited in an unusual way, such as the Monte Berico climb tackled downhill. The entrance to the circuit will be marked by the passage in front of the famous "Rotonda", one of the villas that best represent the Palladian genius. The details of the Vicenza finale of the Giro del Veneto were illustrated by the municipal councilor for Sport, Matteo Celebron, and by Filippo Pozzato, general manager of PP Sport Events. After starting from Padua and having skirted the Euganean Hills, the race will climb the Berici Hills to Arcugnano, along the Strada Militare, very popular with cycling enthusiasts in the area. The Sanctuary of Monte Berico will be reached, already the arrival site of stages of the Giro d'Italia, but this time the steep slope of the sanctuary will be traveled backwards, that is, downhill. The route will pass through the heart of Vicenza, including the very central Corso Palladio, and will return to the west of the Berici to take the Strada Militare again. After the third lap, the race will end on the straight of Via Roma.

“Starting with the 2020 Italian championship and continuing with the other events of 2021, the Municipality of Vicenza has willingly embraced the initiatives organized by Filippo Pozzato both for their level and for the involvement they have created – observed the deputy mayor of Vicenza with responsibility for sports activities, Matteo Celebron -. This year we wanted to take a step further, with the Giro del Veneto ending in Via Roma for the first time. This is a land of cycling but also of companies that work in cycling and it is right that tourism promotion passes through these events, inspired by the classics of the North but set in our landscapes, which really have a lot to offer”.

“Thanks to the synergy that has been created with the Municipal Administration of Vicenza, the 85th Giro del Veneto will open an extraordinary showcase of Vicenza to the world – underlined the general manager of PP Sport Events Filippo Pozzato –. For me it is a fortune to have grown up and trained on these roads, and it is a source of pride to organize this event here. The races are important, but the setting must be no less so. We have thought of a circuit to be covered three times to increase the enjoyment of the public, the last 60 kilometers of the race will all be here. We will also organize initiatives for children in the finish area, we will make them protagonists and not just spectators thanks to the collaboration with the former professional and great friend Angelo Furlan, very active in the training and education of children on mobility”.

In addition to the Giro del Veneto, PP Sport Events is organizing the Veneto Classic (16 October) and the Serenissima Gravel (14 October), races that made their debut on the professional calendar last year.
