The 85th Giro del Veneto will raise the curtain on Ride The Dreamland 2022. The classic for professionals born in 1909 and brought back to life last year by PP Sport Events after a long break is scheduled for Wednesday 12 October with departure from Padua and arrival in Vicenza.
The first sight, as always very impressive, will be that of Prato della Valle in Padua, where last year the Belgian Meurisse crossed the finish line with his arms in the air. It is here that the 85th edition will get underway at 12:15. After a short transfer section, the start flag will be lowered in via Armistizio at 12:25 and then head towards Abano and the Euganean Hills, an area that belongs to the tradition of the Giro del Veneto. The route will pass through Torreglia, Galzignano Terme, Rovolon, Teolo and, after the first 60 kilometres, the route will enter the province of Vicenza. A few flat kilometers through Bosco and Nanto, then in Barbarano you climb the Berici Hills, to meet the climbs of Ca’ Lerna, Bocca d’Ansiesa and Perarolo da Brendola.
The last hour of the race will take place on a 21.5-kilometer circuit that combines technical content and the beauty of the Vicenza area, above all the famous “Rotonda”, an eminent Palladian masterpiece. The race will climb to Arcugnano along the Strada Militare and will follow the ridge to the Santuario di Monte Berico. The steep slope of the sanctuary will be traveled downhill. You will pass through the center of Vicenza along the very central Corso Palladio and will return to skirt the Berici to get back on the Strada Militare. After the second lap, the race will end on the straight of Via Roma in Vicenza with 159.5 kilometers covered.
The roll of honor of the Giro del Veneto is crowded with illustrious names, including Costante Girardengo, Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi, Franco Bitossi, Roger De Vlaemick, Giuseppe Saronni, Francesco Moser and also Filippo Pozzato, winner in 2009 and now involved in the role of organizer.
“Ride The Dreamland was born from the desire to bring great cycling back to our region and, within this project, the Giro del Veneto represents the link between Veneto and the history of cycling – says Filippo Pozzato, general manager of PP Sport Events -. I am tied to this race by wonderful memories. We have tried to create a spectacular route with good technical content, which will certainly bring out a worthy winner. My thanks go in particular to the mayor of Vicenza Francesco Rucco and the sports councilor Matteo Celebron, the sports councilor of Padua Diego Bonavina, the S.C. Padovani and the Municipalities of Abano Terme, Galzignano Terme, Torreglia, Rovolon, Teolo and Arcugnano. We would not be able to organize the Giro del Veneto without their support and that of our sponsors”.
PP Sport Events has planned some recreational and educational initiatives aimed at children in the arrival area, thanks to the collaboration with the former professional Angelo Furlan, very active in educating children about sport and mobility, and Dr. Matteo Zanella, who will be responsible for teaching children the basics of first aid.
After the Giro del Veneto, Ride The Dreamland will continue with Serenissima Gravel on October 14, VENEtoGO on October 15 and will end with Veneto Classic on October 16.
